ConfidentialityAdultsAs a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), there are some obligations on your psychologist outlined below. Generally, however, what you say in therapy is treated with the strictest confidence and would not be revealed to a third party. Children and FamiliesThe individual rights of each family member will be respected and, generally, what is said by one member of the family in confidence will not be told to other family members. Exceptions to this include issues of risk to children under 16. General Issues of ConfidentialityIf you were referred to us by an outside agency (e.g. Solicitors, Insurance Company, GP) then we would act according to their instructions with regards to communicating the result of any assessment or therapy. You would receive copies of any letters sent. All psychologists are required by the BPS to discuss their practice with a colleague in confidence. This may include discussing a client's assessment or therapy. In such cases, details likely to identify the client will be anonymised. |
